Animal Therapy Intern

Part-time and unpaid.

Pawsitive Friendships therapy team provides goal–orientated animal therapy to individuals with special needs in an educational, clinical and day program settings. We work hand in and with the facilities to develop a custom program to meet the goals for their clients. Our program has proven to increase social skills, communication, motivation, fine and gross motor skills, self–regulation as well as decrease anxiety.

We are currently seeking "Pawsitive Partners" interns, or individuals who facilitate a pre-planned activity between a Therapy Animal and members of the special needs community. Interns should have strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Interns will be given a preplanned curriculum lesson, with detailed instructions on how to facilitate the activity. This role ensures the members are participating in the activity, practicing safe petting with the animal.

We are located on the northwest side of Tucson at an adult program for adults with developmental disabilities. This is an on-going program, so start and end dates are flexible. To apply, please email Tosha Tharp-Gaitanis at Tosha@pawsitivefriendships.org.
