Human Development & Family Science

The people-focused, hands-on coursework in the Human Development and Family Science program challenges students to devise, defend, discuss and refine research-based solutions that enrich the quality of life for families, individuals and communities.
Undergraduate Major
The Bachelor of Science program brings a multidimensional approach to understanding human behavior and relationships from psychological, social, cultural and biological perspectives. Students apply their knowledge for a career or graduate program in fields such as social work, counseling, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, human resources and child program management.
Undergraduate Minor
The Human Development and Family Science minor allows students to explore issues within families and individuals across the lifespan. Coursework prepares students for professions that improve the quality of life for individuals of all ages, couples and families.
Graduate Program
The Ph.D. program offers cutting-edge training in Human Development and Family Science, with an emphasis on developing skills for conducting basic and applied research. Graduate coursework includes classes in theory, applications and rigorous research methodology and statistics.
Internships
The program has an excellent network of community agencies and partners who provide internship opportunities and hands-on learning for students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world settings.
Advanced Scholarship
Working closely with faculty mentors, students participate in active research labs, present at professional conferences, take on leadership roles locally and in professional organizations, and author scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
