The Bio/Diversity Project brings together the combined efforts of the Women in Science and Engineering Program (WISE) at the University of Arizona, Saguaro National Park, and the Friends of Saguaro National Park to diversify the environmental sciences and provide environmental science outreach education to underserved K-12 schools in metro-Tucson. The Bio/Diversity Project Internship Description
Interns in the Bio/Diversity Project are paired with local K-12 teachers and serve in Title I schools to teach culturally relevant, place-based, and hands-on environmental science curriculum focused on the biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. In exchange for a commitment of 10 hours per week, interns receive 3-units of academic credit through any of 21 different academic departments. Weekly internship classes and assignments help equip interns with the skills necessary to develop curriculum and teach through an equity lens, and are utilized directly in the K-12 classrooms.
