[CLOSED] Elder Rehab Volunteers and Interns

Elder Rehab

Interns and volunteers are being recruited to serve as one-to-one rehab partners to senior adults with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia.

They are trained to supervise a prescribed physical exercise routine and administer a manual-based language and memory stimulation activity. There are 20 2-hour sessions per semester usually accomplished in 10 weeks of twice weekly 2-hour sessions. Session times are arranged between the student and the assigned partner’s caregiver and can be any days of the week, but not consecutive days.

The location of the program is at Desert Sports and Fitness located near Pantano and Wrightstown Road - a 20 minute drive from UA. Students need to have CPR certification or be registered for a CPR class to be accepted. Students must wear CLOSED TOE shoes. Proof of vaccination against COVID is required.

Students interested in earning University of Arizona internship credit would be able to complete the 40 hours of direct service and would be given priority over volunteers (who would have the same duties and responsibilities as interns). Priority is also given to students who commit to both Fall and Spring semesters. It’s a first-come, first-served process. Acceptance, of course, depends on the availability of a participant to work.
